Teen Suffers Brain Injury in Gym Class

There are multiple situations in which someone might suffer a traumatic brain injury. While at times there is little that could have been done to prevent such an injury from occurring, this is not always the case. Sometimes the negligent actions of others are to blame. The family of an Ontario teen has learned this firsthand.

The 14-year-old teen was injured during gym class while running at track operated by a city in the province. A sawed-off golf club impaled her skull when she tripped over low-lying wire. The wire was connected to the sawed-off golf clubs and it is believed when she came into contact with the wire the golf club was pulled out of ground and ended up in her brain.

At the time, the modified golf clubs were positioned as a guide for lines that crews were using to paint lines on the ground.

While obviously a serious injury, the extent of damage inflicted is not yet clear. It is anticipated that she could face issues with her memory and possibly face paralysis as well. That will become clearer as the swelling of her brain reduces.

When parents send their children off to school each day they assume that they will be kept safe. As more information becomes available about what happened it is possible the family of the girl could decide to take legal action against the parties responsible for the incident. In situations such as this one the first step is to contact a lawyer to determine the best course of action.
